Captain Michael D. Alch is a native of Baton Rouge, Louisiana. He graduated from the United States Military Academy at West Point in May 2008 and received his commission as an Armor Officer. Following completion of the Armor Officer Basic Course, he was assigned to 1st Battalion, 35th Armor Regiment in Baumholder, Germany, where he deployed in support of Operation Iraqi Freedom in central Baghdad. Upon his return to Germany, he served as a Tank Platoon Leader and in 2011, he deployed to Uruzgan Province, AFG in support of Operation Enduring Freedom where he served as Company Executive Officer and on the Battalion Staff. CPT Alch graduated from the Maneuver Captain’s Career Course at Fort Benning, GA in 2013 and was assigned to the 4th Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment at Fort Riley, KS as the Squadron Logistics Officer. From May 2014 – June 2015, he commanded Apache Troop, 4-4 CAV, and deployed the Troop to Kuwait, Jordan, and Oman in support of Operations Spartan Shield and Inherent Resolve. From June 2015-May 2016, he served as the Commander of Headquarters and Headquarters Troop, 1st Squadron, 4th Cavalry Regiment. CPT Alch’s military education includes the Armor Officer Basic Course, Maneuver Captain’s Career Course, and Airborne School. CPT Alch’s awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (1 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (1 OLC), Army Achievement Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraq Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary and Service Medals, NATO Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (2nd Award), the Basic Parachutist Badge, and the French Army Parachutist Badge. He is also a Bronze Medallion recipient in the Order of St. George.
