Senior Military Science Instructor
Master Sergeant Mark Alston is a native Long Branch, NJ. He entered the United States Army in August of 1994 and completed Basic and Advanced Individual Training for MOS 13F, Fire Support Specialist, at Fort Sill, OK. During his 21 years of active service, MSG Alston has held positions as a Forward Observer, Team Chief, Squad Leader, Drill Sergeant, Platoon Sergeant, Battalion Fire Support NCO, Ground Liaison Officer, Brigade Fires and Effects Coordination Cell NCO, Observer Coach Trainer and Battery First Sergeant.
His assignments include: Fort Hood, TX; Schofield Barracks, HI; Camp Carroll, South Korea; Fort Jackson, SC; Fort Riley, KS; Dyess AFB, Abilene, TX; Fort Knox, KY; Joint Base McGuire-Dix-Lakehurst, NJ; and Fort Bragg, NC. He has multiple deployments in support of Operations Enduring Freedom, Iraqi Freedom, New Dawn, Spartan Shield, and Inherent Resolve.
Master Sergeants Alston’s military and civilian education includes the Warriors Leaders Course, Advance Leaders Course, Senior Leaders Course, Air Assault School, Drill Sergeant School, Combatives Level 1, Joint Fires Observers Course, Joint Fire Power Course, Observer Controller Course, Battle Staff, Company Commander and First Sergeants Pre-Command Course, and a Bachelor of Arts in Theology.
His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (2OLC), Meritorious Service Medal (2OLC); Army Commendation Medal (6OLC), Army Achievement Medal (2OLC), Navy Achievement Medal (1Star), Air Force Commendation Medal, Army Good Conduct Medal (4th Award), Iraqi Campaign Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal (2 Campaign Stars), National Defense Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, NCO Professional Development Ribbon (Numeral 3), Army Service Ribbon; NATO Medal, Overseas Service Ribbon (Numeral 7), Meritorious Unit Commendation (1 OLC) and Air Assault Badge. Master Sergeant Alston is also proud member of the Honorable Order of Saint Barbara.
